Kitchen Tiling Installation
Tiles are a popular material in kitchens for practical and aesthetic reasons. They are easy to clean and durable in a space that is often subject to the elements of cooking. Yet, because the kitchen is arguably the heart of so many homes, and its appearance is often also what gives a home its style.
Backsplash Tiling
Whether it is some pasta water, some sauce that splashed out during cooking or some splattering of oil during a deep fry, having a tiled backsplash makes cleaning up a whole lot easier. In addition, the choice of backsplash tiles can often be what makes a design statement in the kitchen. Whether you have always wanted a dash of colour to serve as an accent behind your burners, or prefer a more conventional, muted aesthetic, it is certainly worth exploring tiles as your material of choice for your backsplash. Overlaying Tiles
If your existing kitchen tiles are still in decent condition but you would prefer the look of a different tile, you may consider overlaying your existing tiles with new ones. Overlaying takes much less time and would also cost a lot less than hacking out your existing tiles and replacing them. That being said, it is important to get your old floor tiles inspected before going ahead with this option. We will be able to assess and advise you on this option with a site visit.
Practical Considerations
In making your decisions regarding tiling your kitchen, there are also various practical considerations. Firstly, it is important to think about how much the kitchen will be used– some tiles might fit a design vision but might not be so practical in a kitchen that will be heavily used. For example, natural stone or porous tiles might need to be pre-treated and maintained in order to maintain their appearance and integrity, while smooth and non-porous tiles are far less likely to trap dirt and grime even under heavy usage.
Commercial Kitchen Tiling
In order to ensure a hygienic, safe and efficient environment, commercial kitchens are often tiled in various places. On the floor, non-slip tiles can help to prevent slips and falls, particularly in areas prone to spills or moisture. Furthermore, grout with antimicrobial properties are often used to inhibit the growth of bacteria and mould, in order to maintain a sanitary environment for the preparation of food. Commercial kitchen floors must also be tiled so that water drains well, preventing water from pooling, minimizing the risk of accidents and water damage.
Around the cooking equipment such as stoves, ovens and grills, heat resistant tiles are often used in order to minimize the risk of heat damage and potential fire hazards. A suitable backsplash will also help to protect the walls from heat, grease splatters and stains from food. Commercial kitchens tiles and grout should also be resistant to commonly used chemicals in the maintenance of commercial kitchens including cleaning agents, degreasers and sanitizers.
